Sublimation printing is replacing traditional methods in different branches of the graphics industry. There are multiple reasons for this shift but the main drivers are the cost-efficiency, possibility to personalise prints and the flexibility of these machines.This is the ideal choice of printed material personalization, which is extremely popular nowadays.And What should we know about sublimation printing?
How does the process work? The first step is to print a digital image on to transfer paper, it absorbs and dries the ink quickly. Then, the factory cuts the paper according to the layout and applies it on the textile. For sublimation to take place all you need is heat and pressure. A specialised press machine transfers the ink to the material.
Here are some of my little knowledge about sublimation printing.
1.It is suitable for artificial material,but it is not suitable for pure cotton fabric, and it is not easy to color.
2.It is better printed on white or very light colored garments or surfaces. The inks are not only transparent (like most inkjet inks) but bond to the polymer molecules so that the base color of the surface/ garment will show through. Sublimating on a black t-shirt for example, would be invisible.
5.Unlike screen printing, dye sub prints full , glorious color in a single pass, reducing time and costs on full color reproductions.
7.Dye sublimation allows for a high degree of customization. Because each item must be printed individually, one can easily add a name , logo, or special message to each item. Something that is impractical with screen printing.
